The London Underground Line descriptions
There are 11 tube lines in London and the Elizabeth line which is actually more of a hybrid rail line, designated “Crossrail”. The 11 main Tube lines are detailed below and information on each is linked.
The Elizabeth line service, with direct end-to-end journeys from the west to the east, started on May 21st 2023. The initial opening in May 2022 was a phased launch, and the final integration of all services took place with this full timetable launch.

The Elizabeth line is represented by purple on the Tube map, serving 41 stations, including 10 brand-new stations built as part of the Crossrail project. The total length is 73 miles (118km). Making it one of the longest urban railways in Europe!
